🐾 Dogs on the Beach: Yes, but Only at Certain Times
Good news for dog owners: our four-legged friends are welcome in Trouville-sur-Mer, provided that certain rules are followed.
Access to the beach is regulated: dogs are allowed all year round, but only before 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. Outside these hours, dogs are not permitted on the sand. C
During the permitted hours, dogs may be off-leash, but they must always remain under the control of their owner or handler.
Away from the beach, walkers and their companions can enjoy the boardwalk: dogs kept on a leash are allowed along the main boardwalk, the Promenade Savignac. A beautiful seaside walk awaits.
Finally, dogs must not be allowed to soil children’s playgrounds or sandpits. Dog waste must always be picked up.
🧺 Picnics on the Beach: Prohibited!
This is one of the rules that surprises visitors the most: under a municipal order dated April 3, 2014, picnics and camping are strictly prohibited on all of Trouville-sur-Mer’s beaches.
This measure is intended to preserve the cleanliness and tranquility of the area. If you are planning a meal by the sea, you will need to head to one of the many restaurants, snack bars, and ice cream shops along the seafront, or make your way to the town’s green spaces and parks.
And for barbecue enthusiasts, remember that campfires and barbecues are strictly prohibited on beaches in France for public safety reasons.
🚭 New Rule in 2025: Smoking Prohibited
A major change for summer 2025: as part of a national decree aimed at protecting younger people and improving quality of life in public spaces, smoking on Trouville-sur-Mer’s beach has been prohibited since July 1, 2025.
🐚 A Few Other Rules to Know
- Shell collecting: collecting shells is permanently prohibited for health and safety reasons in the area stretching from Honfleur to the Club Nautique de Trouville-Hennequeville.
- Drones: their use is subject to civil aviation regulations. Check with the Calvados Prefecture before flying your drone.
- Horses: horseback riding is permitted from two hours before to two hours after low tide, and only on wet sand. A request must be made in advance at the lifeguard station.
